Problem Patterns – Classic Rock Has Become My Prison
Belfast’s Problem Patterns tackle classic rock misogyny head-on with “Classic Rock Has Become My Prison”, the latest single from their September 12th EP “Boring Songs For Boring People”.
The title came from a rant about a neighbour who blasts classic rock from his garage, forcing the band indoors. But dig deeper and the song becomes a pointed critique of sexism in rock’s most celebrated tracks. The band weaves 25 uncomfortable classic rock lyrics into their own “chuggy parody”, challenging listeners to spot them all.
Recorded by Niall Doran at Belfast’s Start Together Studios, the track sees Problem Patterns adopting classic rock alter-egos – Beverley Flippin’ Boal, MegaBeth, Hard Rock Alanah, and Ciara King Cobra. They nail the ripping solos and chugging riffs before unleashing their signature anger. It’s their most “cock-rockiest” moment yet, using the genre’s own tools against its worst tendencies.
